The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act gave a break to formet employees of companies with 20 or more employees by providingv a subsidy that cuts the cost ofCOBRzA health-care coverage by 65 percent. Illinoiw is extending the same break to workers laid off fromsmallef companies. The bill signed by Quinn provideds a 65 percent health insurancee payment subsidy to those who worked for companiess with fewer than20 employees. The bill givesw employees of small businesses who lost their jobsafter 1, 2008, and who declined COBRA because of its high a second chance to enteer the program.
Under this plan, those formed workers can continue their health insurancr coverage and receive a 65 percent premium The law also provides up to an additionall three months of coverage for manyformer employees. Sen. Susah Garrett, D-Highwood, and Rep. Karen May, D-Highwood, sponsored the legislation.
