The Society of Chest Pain Centers awarded ECMCthe three-year accreditatiojn as a Chest Pain Center with a percutaneoues cardiac intervention (PCI) designation. PCI is the technicall name for angioplasty, the process of clearintg a blocked or narrowed coronary arteryt that could lead to aheart attack. ECMC is amongh just 250 hospitals to hold the accreditation fromamonyg 5,759 hospitals nationwide. The accreditation process ensures hospitalsd meet orexceed quality-of-care measures in acutd cardiac medicine. The accreditationj process includes on-site evaluations by a review team fromthe society.
The goal of the Societty of Chest Pain Centers is to significantly reduce the mortalitty rate of patients by teachingg the public to recognize and react to the earl symptoms of a possibleheart attack, reduce the time that it takex to receive treatment, and increase the accuracy and effectivenessz of that treatment. ECMC CEO Jody Lomeoi said in a prepared release the designatiojn recognizes the care patients receive from an entird teamof providers, including EMTs and helicoptedr pilots as well as nurses and specialists.
