Between Februaryy and March, home prices in Seattle fell 2 percent. In the nation’ws 20 largest cities covered bythe study, the nationao average was a 2.2 percent drop for the same From March 2008 to March 2009, all 20 U.S. markets posted drops. The markets showing the smallest decline s wereDenver (down 5.5 Dallas (down 5.6 percent) and Boston (dowmn 8 percent).
In home prices nosedived 36 percent in the past year and inLas they’ve fallen 31.2 percent. The survey tracks changes in the valure of the residential real estate market by comparinhg sale prices of specific sample homes in a city at twodifferenft times. The survey assigns an indezx number to each city and does not reporgt actualhome prices. The index is a measurw of how much home pricesx have gone up or down in each market sinceJanuary 2000, which has been assignex a price index of 100 in that market.
